How do I know if I have an HRV?

Important information about your Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV).

Your HRV is designed to give you years of fresh air supply, humidity control and energy savings. However, a neglected system can actually increase indoor air quality problems.

Your HRV has an outdoor intake and exhaust, used to bring in fresh air and expel stale air. It is very common for the intake vent to become clogged with all kinds of outdoor debris. When this happens, the HRV expels more air out of the house than it is bringing back in, causing a negative pressure.

Negative air pressure inside a home can cause combustion appliances, such as furnaces, gas hot water heaters, and fireplaces to backdraft and spill toxic gases into the home.

Help your HRV keep your home healthy, by cleaning the intake and exhaust vents regularly. Every two months is a good start until you are familiar with how long it takes to become dirty.

At Enmedex, we are indoor air quality (IAQ) specialists. We are experts at keeping your clean air system in peak operating condition. If your HRV has not been serviced this season, contact us today to schedule a visit.

A Summertime Note about your Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV).

As the weather warms up and you start to open windows more often, you may not need your HRV as much. However, your HRV still needs you! Now is an excellent time to check that your air intake is free from debris, and re-usable filters are cleaned. Dirty filters and intakes will make your HRV work harder, increase your electricity and maintenance costs, and diminish the amount of fresh air you receive indoors. You may choose to turn your HRV off for the summer or place it on “Stand-by” (some models).

If you prefer to keep your HRV running for the summer, Lifebreath owners may want to insert a “summer core”. Heat recovery is unnecessary in the summer months, so a summer core allows greater airflow through the HRV without heat recovery. Lifebreath summer cores cost as little as $115.00 (plus tax).

Allergy Season is here!
Tree, grass and flower pollens bother many people.

Your HRV is a fresh air delivery system, not a filter.
The re-usable filters found in most HRVs are strictly to keep larger debris and bugs out of the core and blower. The Lifebreath TFP 2000 is a high performance filter designed to install on existing HRVs and forced air heating systems. Contact Enmedex to discover if a TFP is right for you.
