How can you inspect indoor air quality?

Naturally, the air inside your home or workplace is invisible (we hope). However, the sources of air quality problems are visible to a trained investigator. The sources of contamination in a building are as numerous as the contaminants themselves, but easily overlooked.

Enmedex is trained and certified by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to find sources and recommend specific solutions. For information specific to commercial or workplace inspections, see Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) Investigations.

What does an investigator look at?

Basically, everything. An investigator must consider:

>>>>> ~ Building location and environment.
>>>>> ~ Site conditions.
>>>>> ~ Building and site history.
>>>>> ~ Building exterior (or envelope).
>>>>> ~ Architectural design and age.
>>>>> ~ Bulk water management.
>>>>> ~ Construction materials.
>>>>> ~ Interior furnishings.
>>>>> ~ Ventilation.
>>>>> ~ Air and water infiltration.
>>>>> ~ Chemical and biological load.
>>>>> ~ Combustion systems.
And much more…….

It is easy to see why a typical inspection takes between 3 to 4 hours to complete on site. Then, temperature, humidity, ventilation data, photos and MSDS sheets must be reviewed before writing a comprehensive report that the building owner can use to solve the problem.

What’s involved in getting an IAQ inspection?

Step One – Contact Enmedex, preferably by telephone, to discuss your particular situation. We will ask questions and give you details on our process, data we collect, timetable, and the ever-important cost. This is your opportunity to discover if an inspection is right for you, or other options such as air testing, might be more appropriate.

Step Two – Upon deciding to proceed, we will schedule a time for our visit and send you a small information package by e-mail or regular mail. The package contains:

>>>>> ~ Instructions for 24 hours prior to our visit.
>>>>> ~ A waiver form listing limitations (the investigator does not have x-ray vision etc).
>>>>> ~ A 7-page survey about your history with the house and related symptoms etc.

Step Three – On the day of our visit, we will meet with you and briefly discuss any questions you may have and the contents of the results of the survey you completed. We will then proceed to inspect the house, top to bottom, inside and out.

Step Four – Within 10 days, you will receive our completed report. Our reports are detailed, so you may want to take some time to review it carefully. If questions arise, feel free to call or e-mail us. This post-inspection support is included in your cost and there are no specified time limits.

What kind of success have your customers had?

In a word, excellent! The reports are designed to prioritize the most urgent changes required, so homeowners don’t waste time and money on ineffective gadgets or quick fixes. As always, results vary from situation to situation, but your first step in gaining control of your indoor environment is having accurate and relevant information. Once we give you that information, you select which changes suit your plans, budget and lifestyle.

Contact Enmedex and take a step towards a healthier indoor environment.
